so if the film has already been process and is ditgal, it wouldn't matter if i did mix in a timeline with other stuff? anyone? your input to this topic will be very helpful. thanks

I dont have any experience in using actual film but I would guess it would come down to a couple things. Codec, resolution and frame rate. If you were dealing with all 24 fps you would probably choose the biggest resolution of the various films and then adjust other by adjusting scale. Or I guess a person could go through and digitize or recompress all the files to the same codec (ie: DVCpro HD) Then just make your timline DVCpro HD and all will meld together because of the same codec.

Once again I have not had experience with this so "take it with a grain of salt" as they say. Just though I would get the ball rolling?

Yes of course you can mix different types of footage in FCP. I'd agree with the suggestion- have the film telecined first to D5 or HDCAM. Then have it captured to DVCPROHD QuickTime. Then convert the HDV footage to DVCPROHD. And edit in a DVCPROHD time. Or get a BlackMagic card for faster conversion.

In L.A. Technicolor Hollywood could do this for you easily. Budget for the telecine to tape, and then the QuickTime capture. I'd figure you'd be in the neighborhood of about $1,000/hour of film footage with a one-light transfer. Also have sound to consider. It's not cheap that's for sure...

how about getting the film put onto a hard drive after been process telecine etc... then could import to FCP? or you need make all of footy the same compression?

how much is it to get 35mm film process, telecine, color correction, sound, and put onto a hard drive?

cant you just edit right off the hard drive if its already there?

Do you have the footage already on a hard drive or on film? To get these prices you would need to call a lab and get a quote- there's not a set price.
