If I have 24p footage and reg 29,97 both of them can be combined in a 29.97 timeline right or wrong,
I still have to capture the 24p footage and remove the pulldown and then mixed with the reg 29.97, does any of those need rendering.
thank you
If you've got 24p footage as 23.98fps media on your hard drive, you've got to edit that on a 23.98fps timeline in FCP or face problems.
You can either make your 60i footage match the 24p footage, or the 24p match the 60i footage. The first is good if you wan the 60i to still look like "video". If you don't want it to look like video, apply my Film Effects filters. There are a number of ways in FCP to add the 3:2 pulldown back to the 23.98fps media to make it work in a 60i (29.97fps) timeline:
1) dump it back to tape. FCP will add pulldown for you. Recapture.
2) Use my Standards Conversion Plugin to add 3:2 pulldown
3) Capture the 24pAdvanced footage, but don't remove the advanced pulldown. Use my Advanced Pulldown converter to change it to 24pNormal, and edit in the 29.97fps timeline like normal.
4) Capture the 24pA footage, and edit in a 29.97fps timeline like normal and hope people don't notice.
Now, if you want to edit you 60i footage in a 23.98fps timeline, there's only one way I know in FCP, and that's to use my Standards Conversion Filter again, and use the 60i to 24p conversion option. From this you can save out new 23.98fps media, and edit everything as if it all had been shot 24p from the start.
