Mixing 24PA with 24P & 60i

Right now I have my sequence set up to remove the advanced pulldown. I need to import clips shot in 60i as well as 24P Normal. So with that said how should I set my sequence? The reason for this is, I am working on a demo reel that utilized the different formats.

Re: Mixing 24PA with 24P & 60i

Sounds like you need to go with the lowest common denominator -- that is, use your original 24p footage with pulldown (so that it's actually 29.97 fps) and use the 60i footage as-is (which is also 29.97 fps).

Re: Mixing 24PA with 24P & 60i

Capture your 60i and 24p normal NTSC DV. (29.97)
If you have 24pa then you'll have to do an advanced removal and then add the 2:3 pulldown. Unfortunately this has to be done with After Effects, Commotion or another product since FCP doesn't do the conversion (it can play out with the conversion but can't save render)

Hum, just thinking out loud here. I did a mini doc on Kauai where I mixed 24PA shot in squeeze mode and 60i shot in letterbox mode on a single chip sony camera.

I may have gotten lucky on my settings... but

I created sequences for the 24PA footage and 60i footage. Then created a third Final sequence where I put the first two sequences in. FCP did a render and the end result was quite stunning in my opinion.

You can find the link to it here - It's a HUGE file though... over 80MB but is on a very fast server.

From what I remember about the footage, the results were indeed great!

Now, wow dude, just saw your signature. You got a lot of kickass equipment!

A lot has changed in a short amount of time indeed.

I've been doing a lot of stuff for something you may be interested in... "Brazillian Ju Jitsu" tournaments.... and promotional DVD's for some of the fighters that train at the local gym to help get them sponsorship.

I got the lighting kit from BH. The first job that I got that actually required lights easily paid for the entire purchase.

Cool! (Not much into Jiu-Jitsu myself, but a lot into videomaking...)

Good Luck!

Hey Todd, I think I am going to do what you said you did. One question though is did you open the other sequences from within the 24PA sequence? You know how you can select a NEW Bin, Sequence or Offline clip? Or did you select a NEW Project and made that a 29.97 timeline?
