Mixing 24P and 30P footage in FCP, Sony Z5U

I'm shooting a project in which most of the footage is being shot in 1080 30P, but various clips will be shot in 1080 24P. I'm using a Sony Z5U and Final Cut Pro.

The idea is to keep the 24P look to separate the various segments. Should I just render the 24P footage in the timeline or is there a better approach?

Drop the 24p into the 30p Sequence. You should be fine. Set In/Out points and export a small portion as a test.

I would do it as 60p. 24p and 30p do not convert well to each other, but they both go well into 60p. (Or 60i.)

What would you do if you already had a bunch of sequences cut together, about half 24p half 30p, and you needed to combine them in a master sequence?

First, you should make all Sequences in a Project the same frame rate, which should match what your output will be. A decision made before you even start importing footage.
You can make a Sequence at the desired frame rate, then copy/paste from other Sequences into it (select all, copy, paste).

Mixing 24p (23.98) with 30p (29.97)...no matter what the sequence settings, will look wrong. FCP is BAD at removing, or adding, pulldown. Does a horrid job. If your footage is, however, 24p running at 29.97, it will be fine.
