Mixed aspects in DVD Studio Pro

Hey there - I'm putting together a demo reel. Is it possible to have both 4:3 and 16:9 projects on the same DVD, and have a DVD player recognize the difference and adjust accordingly?

I was able to make a DVD that worked on my computer, but then when I tried the same DVD on my home DVD player, it froze up and had to be shut down completely.

Any help appreciated. I need to turn this demo reel in Monday morning and I don't want my lovely anamorphic footage to be squished! (which, all things considered, would be the lesser of two evils to having the rest of my pieces stretched).

Are the different aspect ratios in the same track? Or on different video tracks all together? Ive got a few retail DVD's where on different tracks i have 16 x 9 and 4 x 3 working 100%. DVD players should automatically recognize them and display accordingly in my tests. But ive yet to stick 4 x 3 footage in a 16 x 9 track.

Id imagine if you wanted the 4 x 3 footage in a 16 x 9 track, you would want to edit the 4 x 3 in a 16 x 9 track in Final Cut Pro leaving the black bars on the side , but that would only work good on a widescreen TV, because the footage would have bars on the sides and the top when displayed on a Standard 4 x 3 tv. Other wise do it the other way around, but instead when played on a Widescreen TV, the 16 x 9 footage would be still have the black bars on the top and bottom when it shouldnt.

Whew, i confused myself there. Sorry. LOL

anyways, puttng them in their own seperate tracks should be A-OK! :)

I've got each project (there are seven all together, 6 of which are 4:3) on seperate tracks. But my home DVD player is not recognizing the 16:9, instead just playing it as 4:3 "squished". It seems that there must be a way to set this up in DVD Studio, but I haven't cracked it yet.

Thanks, Gunleik -

That is the setting I'm using. It does work when played back on my computer, just not on my home DVD player. I'm wondering if it's because I have each track set to end jump to the next, rather than having to select each track to play. Maybe this isn't giving the player a chance to change its settings? The manual (yep, I did read it!) says that you should use 16:9 menus with 16:9 tracks, so I'm wondering if I need go out of the previous track into a new menu from which to play the 16:9 project?

I have no good experiences with 16:9 menues at all, but that's just me...

The "track following track", thing could be it, but I've done that successfully here.

Have you tried it on more DVD players, to check if yours is the odd one?
