Mixed 24pA/@24p anamorphic settings - FCP

This camera's a pain.
I'm about to edit my buddy's movie, shot on a 100A with an anamorphic adapter and primarily @ 24pA, but some @ 24p and 60 (he must not like me).
I'm having trouble getting the right combination of settings (FCP5) to dig 16x9 and playback in 16x9 @ 23.98 seq, what gives?

I saw a post talking about Cinema tools - but am not certain how this would work. Does it need to be applied to every clip? I'm a little lost and would appreciate a flashlight on this site.

Also - what friggin deck should I use?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Kevin

Deck - low cost camera that supports timeccode (sony) or a real deck.

You'll need to deal with your different types of clips separately. 24pa is advanced pulldown removal. It's a preset. 24p needs reverse telecine. In 4.5 it used CinemaTools. Do a search in FCP help menu for 24p pulldown or telecine.
60i is standard capture. Use Natress filter to downconvert. Tell your buddy to keep it on the same setting in the future.

Anamorphic. Trun on the anamorphic checkbox. Do a search of the FCP help function for anamorphic.

Hey thanks - I learned a great deal today, but this camera is still a pain.

The preset 24pA - does not work, not on my system and not on the facilty's system (guru) that we tested it on today, unless of course these guys actually shot in 24p standard. I'm either going to use a decklink card or just do the cinema tools route. It just seems odd that the pulldown's not automatic, there are too many damn settings (cam and fcp) to get wrong. Have you successfully digitzed @ 24 frames through firewire?

Anamorpihic as a preset... it's always the most obvious things. Now I'm having trouble getting the audio to match (I understand sample rates, etc.) - though it worked on my (other) buddy's system earlier today, maybe it's just late.

As far as the deck goes, I tried a low grade (old, old dv) sony deck and it didn't like it. I'll try a more recent iteration.

Regardless, thanks for your response and hell, at least this is fun.

It's always worked for me on a couple of systems. I've been able to digitize 24pa through firewire no problem.
Compare to this (4.5 examples)

Check the tape in the camera with all displays on. What format was it really shot in?
If you don't know that you may have other problems down the road.

Audio- make sure you're watching and viewing on same system (computer or monitor)
Make sure to record 48k and not 32k
