Mix-Pre/Tascam DR-07 question

Hey guys,

I have a Mix Pre and a Tascam DR-07. I should have pretty decent quality by recording from the 1/8" line-out into my 1/8" line-in on my DR-07 right?

If I'm right, the only 'issue' would be the lack of a professional locking connector. Unplug the 1/8" pigtail and I'm screwed. Of course I would monitor through the DR-07, so I'd know if anything funky happened.

Seems like a cheap solution to use the professional pre-amps on the Mix Pre and pass the signal off at line-level which should preserve the fidelity... right? Am I missing something?

While I'd love to have a more professional recorder, I have what I have at the current time and I just wanted to see if any of you sound pros think I'm doing something stupid and I'm missing something??

Yes, that's a good starting setup. Correct thinking that you want high quality preamps and limiters on the front end (which the MixPre obviously is) and then run at line level into a recorder.

I run a similar setup using an H4n and it works great. The only complaint is that it does add some low-end rumble and the noise floor of the recorder is sometimes a problem with softer sounds when I'm not riding riding the gain of the preamp.

Wow, that's great. Ya, I wanted to go with the H4N but if I remember right, there are no line-level inputs for XLR on the H4N, so I'd be back to using the H4N's pre-amps (which defeats the purpose of using the MixPre) if I wanted a more professional (XLR) connector anyways, and the H4N is much more expensive than the Tascam. So if I was to use the line-in on the H4N, what's the advantage?

What I don't know is if all Analogue to Digital converters are equal, and I"d guess they aren't... and that's the main thing I'm using the Tascam for.
