Mitsubishi 1080 series TV

I'm pretty new to HD, so forgive my cluelessness.

My girlfriend's family has this huge Mitsubishi HDTV, I don't know the exact dimensions, but I'd guess it's about a 60 inch. They bought around 1999 or 2000, so I can only assume that it's 1080i (1080p is fairly new right?). I was trying to figure out what model it was so I could do a little more research, but I can't find it anywhere. The only thing I see is "1080 series".

I'm wondering what we can watch or use with it. If it's only 1080i, what happens if I shoot 720p 24p footage on an HVX, and plug it in to watch it? Will it not play at all? Or will the TV automatically interlace it? If I get a Blu ray player for it, and play a 1080p disc on it, what will happen?

Is there any possibility at all that the TV Is 1080p? Or is 99/2000 too early of a model to be 1080p?

I have one. It will not be 1080p, but you can play any of your footage from the HVX to it over component (in the DTV input). You may or may not be able to feed it a 720p signal, depending on the year and model, but you can set the HVX to feed it 1080i.

So if I played back 720p footage would it not play at all? Or would it play as 480i? What if it was 24pN footage? Would it automatically use a pulldown? Or just not play at all?

Since technically 1080 24p HVX footage is written in 60i, it wouldn't have a problem playing would it? How does it look?

If you played it out of the HVX as a 720p feed, the TV may or may not display it, depending on the year and model of the TV.

But as I said, you can set the HVX to convert 720p to 1080i when it plays footage through component. Then, you will have no problems.

It looks fine.
