Mitchell Report Comes Out Today

There has already been a leak that Clemens and Pettitte are named in the report (something that bothers me as a Yankee fan).

I don't know how I feel about this report. To a certain extent the juiced hitters were playing against the juiced pitchers and vice-versa, but what about the borderline players who had their jobs taken from them because they were not cheating.

This whole era of baseball has a massive * tattooed on everyone's mind. Records are tarnished and the history of baseball has a massive black eye.

That being said, this report is a tabloid to me no different than reading the covers of the National Enquirer or US Weekly while waiting to check out at the grocery store. I want the names, I want the dirt but I want to keep my naive blinders on and not lose respect for players who are named.

This upcoming season just got more dramatic but today is going to be a history making day in the world of baseball.

Yeah...I've got my fingers crossed that I won't see some names on that list.

But, I'm no Clemens fan.

And what about the juiced hitters versus the clean pitchers? That scenario does exist.

I'm not a huge Baseball fan but it was obvious to many how tarnished this sport has become.

I don't think you can call it "cheating" if we are talking about years ago. There was a time there were no written rules about what you can and can't do with your body in relation to the sport. Illegal drug policies came into the picture (cocaine, marijuana, etc.), not so much for the players, but for the business (IMO). Now here were are with this new mess.

I am perfectly fine as a fan of the sport that a professional athlete do whatever he wants to his body in order to be more competitive than the next guy. That's what sports are all about. HOWEVER, if it is illegal OR it is banned by the sport of baseball, then I would say bust him.

And personally, I'd have a bigger issue with a "clean" guy who is an ass to my kid when asked for an autograph then the "juiced up" guy who smiles, shaked my kid's hand and signs the ball.

it would be funny if it named derek jeter. just because more than any other current player, he is baseball.

clemens was definitely on roids.

Performance enhancing drugs simply put, takes away the glory of the athelete. Anyone who has spent time training for any physical sport or event with old fashioned hard work should be able to discern this .

I'm not an uber athelete, but when training for the 2006 10K Mud Run, I worked my ass off for that; lifting, running, swimming, basketball; at least 4 days a week in the gym.

At one point I could run 2 miles, walk over and do 3 sets of 10 Dead Hangs and then go do 3 Sets of 50 push ups with a 25 LB PLate on my back. Followed by lifing and atleast 2 hours of full court basketball. The best shape of my life was at 36 years of age.

When you're working out, there is something wonderful about making the next leap physically; you know it the day it happens; you run faster and longer, you can lift heavier, you can jump higher or play longer ...

Taking juice to cheat this process just leaves a bad taste in my mouth; it's a short cut.

There was this one guy inthe gym that over the course of 10 months went from very average to ripped and HUGE.

His head was growing, he looked pissed off all the time. TOtal juicer and everyone in the gym knew it. It was sad.

Maybe we should show Rocky shooting up or rubbing the cream on his thighs prior to his fight with Creed; that'd be a compelling story right ?

Damn

All this talk has made realized how much I have slacked in the last year plus. : (

Cheaters. They know they're cheating and oughta be ashamed.

As I keep saying...these mamaluks are pissing on the graves of the great ones.

Clemens is a shocker to me.

...and they gave poor Maris an * for bullshi* reasons.
Shameful. Tar and feather the lot of 'em.

it would be funny if it named derek jeter...
Get the hell outta here! Jeter (and ARod too for that matter) is a timeless true-blue athlete who coulda made it in any era.

The legal issue has always been the gray area of this entire steroid debate with two camps of thought (both of which I have been part of).

Camp One says that it was not illegal and banned in baseball at the time so these players were just taking advantage of the loophole to their benefit.

Camp Two says that it was illegal in the US so regardless of baseballs rules that it was breaking the law. Furthermore, it was cheating.

Honestly, at this point I think baseball has really cleaned up and I am happy to just write this off as a steroid era and move forward with a mental * placed on this entire period. That being said, people have been 'juicing' throughout history. There are tales of players in the 20's taking pills so they could stay awake and play the second half of a double header.

Drugs are part of our culture, whether we are talking legal or illegal chemicals.

That being said, personally I think that there will just be a tighter testing process as a result of these findings.

Regarding Jeter, I don't know if he is so much the face of baseball (sooner or later that will be Alex Rodriguez as he passes Ruth, Aaron, and Bonds for the all-time home run king record) but he does a ton of anti-drug commercials and benefits. His 'Turn Two' foundation is also heavy anti drug. I would be shocked if he was named.

Then again, Clemens shocked me and all the signs are right there...

1 hour until the report...

Regarding John's comments, this HGH (Human Growth Horomone) is one of the major issues. Look at football for example... If anyone believes that a 350lb man is able to run a 4.5 without performance enchancing chemicals then I have a bridge to sell you. This problem is rampant and when I watch sports, for as much as I love seeing these specimens of physical advancement, I want to know that they did it cleanly.

We haven't had that in a long long long long long time.

Although I agree that it is probably a problem in most sports you just don't see it as prominently in sports like Hockey.

I think it is because the leaders in Hockey, past and present, just don't fit the bill.

Guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, & Crosby... they are the best of the best, naturally.

Bonds and McGwire (a while back) really put the spotlight on the problem in baseball.

If Crosby starts breaking some of Gretzky's records... "Juice" won't be the the first thing that pops into mind. It wouldn't even be a thought.

How the game is played today as compared to yesterday would be the only issue.

Either way, I'm glad that they are finally starting to clean house.

Mike

The whole report is available at mlb.com

The thing is, this list is by no way comprehensive or complete. This is the list compiled off of these three sources. That is crazy.

I, for one, am glad Clemens got nailed. It was so obvious when his body blew up in Toronto. when he pitched for the sox his last year, he clearly lost a step.

The 2000 season when he beaned Piazza during the season because Piazza kept taking him yard, then threw a bat at him in the playoffs. The guy has always been a sleaze ball.

Wow. I loved Lenny Dykstra.

I get that if you break the rules you should get busted. But I have to empathize with the guys who are on the bubble, especially before HGH was banned. All these guys are doing it, and you get a choice between juicing and making a million plus a year for 8-10 years, or not juicing and going back to the minors and making a lot less. I can't say I wouldn't consider it.

Than again, I had Doritos for breakfast and Onion Rings for lunch.

One of the most startling accusations btw in the report is that the players association tipped players as to upcoming drug tests.

That's just it. They are not ALL doing it. There are some guys who made it on hard work alone.

Time to clean house and make the sport respectable.

Wouldn't a list of guys who DIDN't juice be shorter....

Glad to see Tony Fernandez isn't on there.

If someone isn't on this list it doesn't mean that they are not guilty. This is simply a list compiled from THREE sources who cooperated after being busted by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

So, the fact that we do not see other or more names doesn't mean that they aren't there, it just means that there was no evidence from these THREE sources.

At this point after seeing certain names, I don't believe anything anymore. That Andy Pettitte one absolutely floored and shocked me.

Still, good new so far.....

...like Fernandez had to use 'roids to bulk up to 145lbs, anyways.
