Mistake when picking my boom pole

I got the KE110CC boom pole and now I see the KE110CCR for $10 and it has a side exit... I got it from B&H so I guess exchangeing it is out of the question when I live in LA, so will an XLR with a 90 degree female withstand a good beating from resting the pole on its end when this end of the cable will be the one taking the abuse?

I guess I would get a 20' cable like this one and get more out of my $20

The 90 Degree is a good idea. It will keep the stress off the actual cable. It would be good practice to try as hard as you can to not set the boom on the end. It will help the XLR on the boom last longer. I would recommend getting a 50' or 100' cable if you can. I have found that 20'-25' cables are only good for tighter shots. It is also a bad idea to stack multiply cables to get additional length. Every additional connection you make will add a bit of noise. Also, some XLR connectors when set on the ground will pick up a buzz. It is best to keep the connectors off the ground. Good luck.

I disagree Latin...your MISTAKE was buying from B&H. :) You're in Cali man!!! You could walk into Coffey or Location Sound and they would have set you up proper.

B&H does have a 7 day return policy. You would have to eat the shipping cost but that is small price to pay to buy from a better retailer.

Most Kteks (not sure about the aluminum ones) can be retrofitted with the horizontal XLR attachment later.

Cheers

What Wabbit said. If I lived in L.A., I'd probably be hanging out at Coffey so much they'd be sick of me. ;-)

Actually, I usually buy through Trew, just because then I don't have to pay shipping and sales tax - just shipping. And, when I do buy through B&H (rare) it's usually to buy a connector that is easier to find on their Web site than describe over the phone. But, as I said, that is very rare.

Though their site is great for research. Highly recommended for that.

But, back to your original question, yes, get a right angle plug for the end of your boom. It will help protect it. One thing I always do with my boom ops is make sure they put the boom on their toe when standing it up, never on the ground. This also helps protect it.

I thought so guys... thanks for helping me
I was just getting good prices on the items (based on the prices I was finding
with the amount of research I had done at the time) and decided to get all from
one spot... B&H was my best option then. I haven't been to Coffey yet, we moved
to Studio City, CA one year ago, and just now we are buying our own equipment
for the very first time. I will go soon, especially if we conclude I should get
something to better/solve this problem issue of mine...

BTW these are included in my initial audio purchase that I have comming on the 4th:

_Rode NTG-1 (comes with Rode SM3 shock mount and 3-Pin XLR Male to 3-Pin
XLR Angled Female Balanced 1.5 ft. Cable
)
_XLRs one 30ft. and one 50ft. (plain male/female "extensions")
_KE110CC pole (2.5 - 9.2 ft., internaly cabled, and its connections are
Nuetrik XLR (female) on top pigtail and Switchcraft XLR (male) in base)

I considered this and thought about "predicament" and realized that the 1.5 ft.
"on-camera" cable IS the solution. So, inmediately after oppening the box I'll be
able to plug this way:
NTG-1 (on shock mount) > Boom Pole > 1.5 ft. > 30 / 50 / 30+50 XLR/s > HVX
this would yeild the following lenghts:
31.5 ft. (4-connections)
51.5 ft. (4-connections)
81.5 ft. (5-connections)

After your posts I thought about this further, and concluded that the only diference
from resting a side exit pole, from resting the 90 connector, on your foot is that
the connection itself might get worn/loose/what-be-it... the XLR cable's connector
shouldn't get damaged though. If all of this is correct, then I find myself facing these options:

a. Buy at Coffey a 90 degree 30ft XLR (-1 number of connections)
30ft. (3-connections)
50ft. (3-connections)
60ft. (4-connections)
80ft. (4-connections)
110 ft. (5-connections)

b. Buy at Coffey a side exit butt to my pole (-1 number of connections)
30ft. (3-connections)
50ft. (3-connections)
80ft. (4-connections)

c. Buy nothing till I upgrade so same a above
31.5 ft. (4-connections)
51.5 ft. (4-connections)
81.5 ft. (5-connections)

Whadayathink? is that $20 90-degree connection gonna make my life better, considering that
I have a $250 NTG-1, will I notice the diference?
Yes, I know it is only $20 so it is worth it, but your individual opinions are a good source of knowledge for me

WOOOOOW guys, K-Tek rocks!
I just got a PM from Manfred Klemme, from K-Tek, who saw this thread, andhe is saying that I should ship it over to him, that it will get there overnight because of how close they are, that they'll just replace the tip on it and that they'll pay for shipping it back to me! the price difference was more than the shipping so in essesnce I just got a discount! lol...

I'll probably ship it as soon as I get it so it is brand new making it easier for them by allowing them to just switch the pole for one already assembled with a side exit...

I feel like I just became part of a private club...

That is incredible. You just dont run into that very often these days. Man goes out of his way without being asked --- definitely old school.
He'll get my business.

That's what I thought. Oh! I better give him my business! but I had to tell him that I was sold on K-Tek before he did this... I have a limited start up budget and trying to buy thing right the first time I decided to get a kick but tripod and head, an HVX and what not so I got tuck with a limited a in really limited budget for audio... so I said to myself, lets get this Rode NTG everyone says sounds like a mic three times its price and upgrade it asap, and get a good boom that I won't have to switch, I am already getting an Oktava for interiors and VO so hopefully it won't be long till I can splurge on a shotgun people won't give a double look at... I am so happy to know that I have all I will ever want in a boom pole right now, done! a carbon fiber 12 footer would be nice, but I have a great pole that's almost the same weight and built by the makers of the poles used in every studio set I work in... I know a KE110CC it isn't that big of a deal, but I feel so good about it right now that I feel I have to say it

People are probably tired of hearing this from me but you have just discovered what I have been saying for some time.

K-Tek products and Manfred, as well as his daughter, Brenda, are the ultimate in everything and every way. None better.

Simply fabulous products, service and people.
