I am editing in Europe with Final Cut Pro 7.01. I shoot video on an AG-HVX200A purchased in Europe, so it is loaded for PAL and I can select to shoot 60 frames, 50 frames, and 25 frames, but NOT film rate 24 frames. Stupid thing to not offer 24 frames at 1080p or 1080i but there you go.
But what is aggravating me now is that my new installation of the whole Final Cut suite does not offer me as a set-up option the very codec that I am shooting with--
there is NO Sequence setting for DVCPRO 1080Progressive 25 or 50 frames.
It offers DVCPRO HD 1080i50 but I don't shoot interlaced and the final product will NOT be played on a broadcast channel or television.
When I import MXF files through Log and Transfer and create Mov files I will get the prompt on dragging the first one onto the timeline that its properties (DVCPR HD 1080P 25 frames) do not fit the existing Sequence setting...which is DVCPRO HD 1080i 50 for lack of what I really want.
Of course, I will tell the Timeline to Conform to the codec of the 1080p 50 or 25 clips that I am putting into the timeline. The Render Control setting I have specified is to RENDER "Same as Sequence Codec" because the only other option is Apple ProRes 422 which it says is ONLY for HDV, XDCAM HD/EX/HD422---so I am stuck.
NEW NEWS-- Now I discover that if I Export a clip as a Quicktime Conversion and select options that I find DVCPRO HD 1080P at 25 frames as a selectable output for Quicktime conversion. AND I find DVCPRO HD 1080P 25 as a project option pre-set in Motion 4. Why does Final Cut Pro not include this codec so that I can roundtrip back and forth between Motion and Final Cut with the same DVCPRO HD 1080P 25 set as the starting and ending Project and Sequence preference? I thought Final Cut was integrated completely with Quicktime and Motion?
So, how do I find and install the DVCPRO HD 1080Progressive 25 and 50 frames codecs which come in the Panasonic AG-HVX200A output? The Panasonic website seems to be no help nor does the Apple website. The codec they offer there is only for viewing, they say, in Quicktime and should NOT be installed on computer with Final Cut!
And why should they be missing in the first place?
Thanks for your help!
