Mirrored Light?

Anybody tried using mirrors to light scenes? Like a bunch of little ones reflecting or anything like that? I can't remember exactly I saw some BTS thing years ago about a production that used mirrors on every light to give a different quality to the light. Looked pretty interesting from what I recall. Any thoughts?

I've bounced practicals into mirrors beside talent for eye light. The effect is slightly more subtle than shining the light directly at them I find.

I've seen it done at work for effect. One of our videographers purposely shattered a mirror and then used transparent tape to tape the shards randomly to a board with a light-stand mount on the back. He used it to bounce light on something on a tabletop. The result was a natural-looking lighting effect instead of a big, bright hot spot. Pretty cool trick!

Mirrors can be quite useful. I like to have 4x mirrors on a truck when doing a daylight shoot because they are great for double bouncing sunlight. Sometimes you are limited on how you can use a reflector by the angle of the sun. You can use a mirror to bounce the sunlight into a reflector/whitecard/4x diffusion without losing any intensity. As mentioned above, people use them a lot for lighting effects for product shots. Just remember that mirrors give off a hard light. Even if you shoot a soft light into them, they take those scattered light rays and reflect them in a hard beam. You can use this quality to your advantage, but don't expect to provide a nice soft light from a mirror without shooting it through something.
