mirror shots

in the movies, how do they get those shots where a character is looking into the mirror at the camera. Is it really that there is no mirror there and the set is just set up that way?

Also how do they just plain get mirror shots from angles where the camera would have to be reflected in the mirror. Let's say for instance the character is looking into the mirror and the camera is directly behind the character looking upon their reflection in the mirror.

Sometimes you can do just very careful placing of the camera and adjusting the angle of the mirror. You can also shoot with a plain colored background and just erase the camera from the shot and fill the color back in, or, you can shoot with a green in the background, and remove the camera, and drop in a new background image. The last one is probably the easiest and most effective.
