Hey all, I was recently given three really good Minolta lenses. I dont know much aboutmaking a 35mm adapter but i would really like to see what could be done with these lenses,
i keep reading about everyone using only Nikon lenses, why is this... are thse Minolta's useless to me? does anyone have some suggestions or links to threads on making an adapter in which i could utalise these lenses!?

thanks guys I appreciate it!

Minolta used to be good glass. NASA thought so, anyway.

Don't know about newer lenses. (Mine was an XD-11 from the 70s)

My adapter was built out of the carcass of a minolta camera.

The good thing about the minolta lenses is the mount never changed, so you can use lenses from any era.

I did run into difficulty with the "pressure ring" (?) that holds the lens inplace. It's basicly a spring type ring that the lens mount pushes into. The problem I have is that because the ring is curved shaped, there are gaps where dust can get in thru the sides. Right now I have a thick rubber band around it to keep out dust.

Anybody else run into this? Is this design a minolta thing, or does everyone use it? Anybody ahve any suggestions?

o.k i picked up the lenses, I have two large, APO 80-200mm f2.8 and an APO 300mm f2.8 and a smaller 28-85mm f3.5 (with a macro 22mm f4.5)

can some one help with suggestions.... have no idea wher to go from here,

Thanks J, so i can build one right? u did.. but how exactly?

These lenses are useable however a faster 50mm lens is really needed I think.

You will need a minolta mount, try using an extension tube from ebay.

Beza,

I'm still not done with my adapter, so I don't want to give building instructions until I have a solid adapter. I'll post them once I have something worth sharing. But for now it's a combination of Edwierdo and Marleens designs.

You might have difficulty with your lens selection as they are all relatively slow lenses. Primes would be better than zooms as they usually are smaller and faster. Your fastest lens is a 2.8 I would definately pick up a 50mm prime. You can get a 1.7 cheap. The difference between a 1.7 and a 2.8 is that you will need 3-4 times as much light to get a useable image. Plus there is a slightly reduced DOF effect and possible vignetting effects.

thanks guys, ill look around for the tube on ebay,

J- let me know how it goes man. I am after a nice DOF,
p.s ( i keep picturing u'r avatar as the person typing... its wierd very funny, makes u seem like an intellegent crazy scientist! )
