Anyone know for sure?......

I was running Vegas 6 on a PC with a 933MhZ PIII (doing lots of rendering) when one day, the computer spontaniously rebooted. Over time, the rebooting was happening more frequently until finally, it would reboot every time Windows loaded. Trying OS reinstal, etc.... but had to write the computer off as dead.

Now I am running on a 800MhZ Athalon (original... not Thunderbird), doing lots of rendering and guess what? My computer is starting to spontainiously reboot!

Is this because my processor is spiked at 100% useage for an hour or more at a time?

Since I am flat broke I cannot afford to upgrade to the recommended specs. Would rendering in smaller chucks save my processor or would that just be a huge waste of time?

Have 1GB of memory which is mostly free during render. The strange thing is how it happened to the first computer (PIII) and now to this (Athalon). Both have different brands of memory.

What I'm saying is that it sounds like the kind of problems you have when memory physically goes bad.

If those machines are running Windows XP (and you may be able to do this in older versions of Windows, too), right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties." Go to "Advanced" and then "Startup and Recovery." Click "Settings" and then UN-check "Automatically Restart." That way, you'll at least be able to read the error message before your machine reboots.

If that works, let us know what it says.
