Minimum specs for editing HDV in final cut?

I can't afford a brand new mac. Was considering buying one used to be able to help as assistant editor on my film. What specs are needed on a mac to be able to edit HDV footage in final cut. I'm a PC guy so I don't know how macs scale in terms of specs.

HDV has a low data rate but requires more CPU power to play because of the MPEG-2 codec. I don't think you will have a problem with a dual core MBP, quad core macpro or dual processor G5. Probably not so good with a macbook.

And, to cut down on power requirement you can always transcode to an i-frame codec such as prores.

You can ingest all your clips then transcode them with mpegstreamclip in a batch.
