Minimum RAM for Resolve (MacBook)

Abe, my pc workstation has 32GB ram and an old i7-8700K processor from 7 years ago, runs at 3.70 Ghz, not overclocked. Resolve will use up to 24GB system memory for the program and 6GB for Fusion. There are only 6 cores.

As you can see from the attached, Resolve leverages the NVIDIA GPU for the main display, paging 8K 60P frames (from 12K BRAW source files) in realtime, decoding BRAW, decoding h.265 with NVIDIA hardware acceleration, and renders h.265 output with NVENC . All these things it does simultaneously.

It will render 8K 24P h.265 output in realtime, 8K 60P rendering slows to about 18-25 fps. With noise reduction added, image stabilization and multi-node color grades and certain OFX effects it slows even more, 2.5 - 5.0 fps. When during a h.265 8K 60P render with NR and heavy effects a cross dissolve is encountered, Resolve throws up a "GPU Full" error and stops. Switch off the NR during the cross dissolve and it continues rendering. Once the play head is past the dissolve, NR can resume. NR is not needed during a cross dissolve. This is a blending of a series of frames.

If the Decklink Card is used with a 2nd monitor, the NVIDIA GPU is relieved of paging 8K frames to the main display; as the Decklink takes over (in 4K). This speeds up the process; color grading, fusion effects, OFX and rendering 8K output.
