MiniDV dupes w/timecode sync AND window burn

Hey all. I've got a challenge and I'm just about stumped. I may have to throw in the towel and farm this out to a pro, but as this is a project for the Film School, I'd like to do this as inexpensively as possible.

Okay, so here's the deal:

I have 32 tapes that need to be copied for student use in an editing class. The tapes are from a doc in progress, so the originals can't be given out to students. However, logs have already been made, which the students will have access to, so the dupes need to have the same timecode as the originals. I can do that with a DVX100 and my AG-DV2500 deck. The problem comes in when the instructor ALSO wants timecode window burn on the dupes so that students aren't tempted to use the footage outside of class. I have not figured out a way to do both.

I have the following equipment at my disposal:
DVX100's
AG-DV2500 deck (Panny)
DSR-20 & DSR-25 (Sony)
Final Cut Pro stations

I tried playing with the edit to tape function in FCP that allows writing the timecode based on the clip rather than starting from 0, but I don't think the decks I have will allow that. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can approach this with what I have available to me?

If not, what kind of a setup should I be looking for? Is there a deck that will jam timecode and create a window burn? I might be able to find someplace in town that might have such a beast that they would cut us a deal on rental or time, but I need to know what to ask for.

Any ideas/help/advice would be appreciated!

You can capture your tapes in FCP and once in the timeline, you go to effects and select time code reader and place that over the video in the timeline, you then have to render and you will see the time code on the screen bottom. You can also change the type size and color if you wish. Once you render the footage you can then play back with your deck connected and make another copy of the tape with the time code burned in.

Thanks. I know about the timecode filter, and tried that. However, the actual digital timecode then does not match up with the window burn once you go back to tape. The edit to tape function can force a timecode signal, but I don't think the decks I have available to me can take the signal (rather than generate a signal itself as it records). The instructor wants both digital timecode sync and a window burn on the copies. So far, I can only do one or the other.

Keep the ideas coming, though. :)

Try this. In FCP change your Sequence TC to match the clip, then change the TC settings on your DSR-25 to "preset" and "internal" and dial in a starting timecode 10 seconds or so before the starting TC of your footage to give you so pre-roll. Black and code the tape for 15 seconds or so then try doing an edit-to-tape.

I'll give that a try. I also just ordered a USB to RS-422 adapter that should be able to control our decks via rs-422, which will allow Edit to Tape functionality. At $60 (including shipping) it's much cheaper than hiring a post house to do it, or getting a Blackmagic or Aja card!

Thanks for your help!
