Hi all. I have a miniDV camcorder Sony TRV33 and I´m thinking to use it for audio records. I have a shootgun mic and I will need an adaptor XLR to minijack Sony.
Is this a good idea? Which is better, a minidisc or my TRV33 for audio records?
thanks

Well if all you need is the wire then do that vs getting the minidisc. Even though the minidisc will record at a higher quality...if all your recording is dialog it is not cost effect. Now if you going to do it as a backup source then I would recommend getting a program like DV Rack and record video and audio and still have the high quality needed for post, not to mention it will help you shoot better video.

For quality, MD will always be better (ya' can't beat opt. input, folks), but if you're just doing dialogue or simple stuff (like smithy said) just go with the SG on your cam.

If you're thinking about spending money on a minidisc, I would look seriously at the Marantz PMD-670. It is a CF recorder that gives you excellent quality and is still fairly cost effective. You can find more info on the PMD in other threads here.
