Mini DV tape recommendations?

Does anyone favor a specific mini DV tape more or have better experience using a specfic brand or grade? Should I use the higher priced 'Master' tapes (some of which handle 80min in SP) or stick to any standard minidv tape out there?

Are some more susceptable to dropouts than others? Am I overly concerned? I just prefer not to take risk with poor tapes if there is such a thing.

Thanks!

Buy the Panasonic Master Quality tapes (or Advanced Master Quality, when the MQs are no longer available). Most importantly, pick a brand and stick with it.

Thanks! Panasonic MQ or PQ tapes it is!

Any harm in putting the tape into another camcorder (sony, samsung, canon) for transferring purposes and then reusing the tape in the DVX?

Thanks

Everyone raves over the Advanced Master Quality tapes, so I ordered one (expensive) and I got it in the mail today. It's HUGE, meaning it would never fit in my DVX, it's like 3 times the size of a mini DV. What cameras are these used for? Its model number AY-DV186AMQ

I just bought 8 5-packs of PQ tapes from Vistek in Toronto. $19.99 for 5. I don't think you can beat that, in fact I think it was an error but they are honouring it. If anyone else wants to order some, here's the link:

I don't know if they deliver to the United States, but if you're somewhere near the border maybe it's worth getting it sent to a mailbox and picking it up yourself.

good price...

good price...

That is a good price for MQ. DVShop in Toronto sells them for $27.00 for 5 and $33.00 for 5 AMQ.
Thanks for the tip!

They are PQ, though, not MQ. I think you meant PQ anyways, because that's what I paid at DVShop, $27 for 5. You have to order online, though. The price is $35 for 5 in store. That's why I think it's an error, although they haven't changed it yet.

Couple things...I just found a site www.tapestockonline.com that you can get the DVM63PQ's for $3.99 each when buying 1-9 of them. Cheaper if you buy in bulk. If you buy more than $25 worth of stuff and use the code "P25" when you checkout you can get free shipping....

I left a kinda' rough reply on another thread I have to go back and edit. Bad words were all my fault.

Back to the main topic...I got my DVX100b last week...anyone else do the 6th grade happy dance when the delivery man left????...anyway, I put in the first tape I could find..a JVCDVM60ME...I shot about 40 minutes just playing around the house..My Panasonic 63PQ's got here today...Should I be worried about switching tapes now with that little amount of footage shot?

Just overly cautious I guess. :undecided

Thanks all.

Good Luck and Keep Shooting.

I'm waiting for my 100B but wanted to make sure I stuck with quality tapes before it arrived. I downloaded the 100B manual and it calls for the Panasonic tapes, just bought 10 and threw them on the same order as the 100B.

Does anyone know if there's a difference in the tape design between this and cheaper tapes? I heard some tapes use dry or wet lubricant on the tape it's self?

Thanks,
Rob
