Mini DV Deck

Hi, i am about to buy the DVX100ae, and want to get a dv deck with it to lessen the use of the camera while editing. I dont really want to spend more than $1400.
What would be the best unit in that price range.
Also i was looking at minidv/S-VHS unit and it said the output was 500 tv lines of resolution. Is that good enough for the dvx or will that decrease the quality.

Any help would me much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Mini DV Deck

Have you thought about getting a mini-dv camcorder and using that as your deck? It'll have no effect on your footage. Your DVX shots are already on the tape. You're just playing it from the cheaper camcorder. I've seen other people talking about doing that in other posts.

Re: Mini DV Deck

The DSR-11 is a robust, well-built, if no-frills deck. Great for feeding an NLE, though a bit pricier than some of the alternatives mentioned in this thread.

Re: Mini DV Deck

Thanks for the replys.
One more question, will a single chip camera output a lower quality image than a 3 chip.

Re: Mini DV Deck

I bought a used 1 CCD cam on eBay for $100. Works perfect. Always hooked up to computer. If you want to avoid used you can still get a new cam for a few hundred bucks. Now if you plan some hard core deck use you can still look into a deck option but other then full time pro use I think a small camcorder fits the bill. Plus you have a little camcorder to use if you want.

Re: Mini DV Deck

A frien of mine bought a broken 1 CCD cam on ebay for 30bucks! It didn't record but it could playback video and! The output was working fine too!

Re: Mini DV Deck

We have several cheap mini-dv camcorders. One is cheap panasonic and the charger is same one that comes with the DVX, so we got an extra charger.

Re: Mini DV Deck

I had to send some comps to a sponsor two weeks ago and felt really schmucky sending the MiniDV format.

:(

They didn't care, but I felt like a schmuck nonetheless.

Re: Mini DV Deck

LOL - VHS! I haven't had a VHS deck in years. Maybe I should've sent the guy UMatic for a laugh.

I would've preferred to send the larger DV format. Even after shooting about a hundred MiniDV size cassettes without many problems I still like the substantial casing of the larger DVCam size stock. It's a lot easier getting DVCam labels through our printers too.

;)
