Greetings to all! I've been a constant reader here at dvxuser.com for years! And I've recommended the site to many people, yet until now I've registered, and this is my first post.
After researching years ago, I bought the DVX100A, and the info on this site helped me to decide that. I've the DVX Book/DVD by Barry Green, and also the Sound for Film and Television DVD. To cut the story short, pretty much everything I know about cameras and sound has been learned here.
So now, I'm planning to buy an HPX170, and I want to make my first short films as a director/cinematographer. I don't have much experience in computer hardware for editing HD formats. I understand that one of the HPX170 recording format is DVCPRO HD for 1080 24p over 60i, and a color sampling of 4:2:2.
So here are my questions (I'm sure many of them have been answered already, but I just can't seem to find a 'definitve' answer):
-I'll be transfering the P2 files through firewire, is there a loss of quality in the 1080 - 4:2:2 video files?
-Are the DVCPRO HD 1920x1080 (16:9 this is correct, right?) video files already compressed or are they uncompressed?
-My current windows based computer specs are:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8800 @ 2.66GHz
Memory: 6GB RAM
Hard Drive: 500 GB - 7200rpm
Optical Drive: Blu-ray reader/writer
Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x9480)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Display Memory: 3815 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1016 MB
Shared Memory: 2799 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
-Does these specs support DVCPRO HD - 4:2:2 video editing for short films? And what if I later plan to do a, let's say, 90 mins feature? What external HDD are good? G-tech? Glyph? I also want to get Adobe Premiere Pro, is my computer capable of supporting this?
Or an iMac and FCP?
THANKS, and I hope anybody can help me.
P.S. Thanks Barry Green for the current info on the AG-AF100!
