Miller Arrow 25?

Hi guys,

I've been trying to find a bit more information on the net about the Arrow 25, but haven't had any success. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with it? And if anyone would be able to share their thoughts as to how it compares with Miller's similarly specced Compass 25?

I had a Compass 20 on rental for a shoot last week and was hugely impressed with it, so I've decided to do the patriotic thing and buy local - but I'm just a little unsure as to how the two Miller '25' options compare.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I own a Miller Arrow 25 head

Bascially it is IMO a perfect high quality video head for 'HD production'

The silky pans and tilts make operation with any cheaper heads make you feel ill once you are used to it
It just works better and better as you add a heavier camera

It is heavy however - for example this weekend Im shooting a RnG shoot operating on foot all day- I will pair my Solo sticks with a cheapo frotto head

Its also IMO too heavy for Solo sticks and works much better with trad ENG sticks..

Compared to the Compass - I dont know

Thanks for your thoughts Morgan, I gave Miller a call about it and they told me that basically the internals of the Compass 25 and Arrow 25 are identical (hence the very similar specs), it's just that the Compass is housed in a somewhat cheaper (and less ergonomic) housing.

Interesting thought on the weight of the head versus the Solo sticks. The Compass 25 is only 200g lighter and most people seem to rave about it combined with the Solo sticks.

I just have a bit of a downer on solo sticks - with heavier cameras

Ive used my solo sticks recently with 501 head and 5d bare - really enjoyed the light weight

But I prefer ground spreaders for a bigger camera..

I think Ive said this before mayb e to you - IMO solo sticks are great in the field but not so hot on getting an eyeline or similar height sensitive shot with a heavy camera

I've owned and used a Miller Arrow 25 with a set of Solo VJ sticks for the past 4+ years with up to 35+lb rigs and it has performed flawlessly; absolutely love it... Haven't tried the Compass 25 so I can't offer a comparison there.

Cheers,
