cheers everyone,

first of all i'd like to introduce myself. my name is Garry Sonny and i live in germany. i have been using this community for a quarter of a year, but never posted anythin :) BUT i love dvxuser it's great.

SO let's get to business

i am looking forward to buying the letusxtreme. but since i found out that certain things and options are gone when you mount it to the camera i got confused. i love the 35mm look and bokeh and i own a hvx200.
my next movie is going to be a thriller and id love to use the 24-Like-zoom-in-and-out way to do a movie. ( TV with Kiefer Sutherland)
i would love to be able to zoom.
i still got the fuji lens from my jvc dv 5000 but i dont think its possible to mount that lense to the letusx.

so does anyone of you have an idea how to mount that lens to the letusx? OR being able to zoom in and out while using the letusx?

sorry for my bad englisch, still am german student :)

greetings,
Garry

lo

lo

lo,
thanks jack for the answer, but i think that these lenses have to much light loss 3,5 and up? thats to hard. mh and the ones on ebay that have 1,4 o 2,8 dont have any zoom .

isnt there any adapter that goes from canon fd to the fuji mount?

thanks!
cheers,
Garry

I sorted those links by least expensive, BTW, which means the slow lenses will show up at the top of the list.

Jack, you mean we can actually zoom in and out using these lenses while attached to the Extreme? How is the operation of the zoom element possible while using the Follow Focus for focusing activities? Doesn't the zoom movement/position alter the focus element?

Just asking. And thanks for your insight.

I was told not to ever think "zoom" with 35mm adapters. Your link came as a surprise. I do "zoom" using the camera zoom rings to achieve zooming in and out the Ground Glass and resetting the zoom at the normal 35mm frame position after.

That was a slight brain fart on my part, the follow focus or lever would have nothing to do with the working the lenz zoom.

Not sure what you mean about using the camera zoom. You only use that to set up the 35mm adapter and then its a good idea to gaff tape over the ring so you don't accidentally move while shooting.

I guess you could zoom in more beyond the GG with the camera zoom, are you saying you've done this? It could work I suppose but depending on how much you are or aren't already zoomed in on the GG and how much more you zoom in you could put your image out of focus.

But sure you can use a zoom lens on a 35mm adapter. Why not. Just reach up and zoom it. The lens doesn't know its backside is connected to a letus, it functions the same as if it were connected to a 35mm camera in terms of optics. If its a zoom lens you can change the focal length.

I've worked with a zoom lens on a 35mm adapter before, but not snap zooming, just experimenting with different focal lengths ... I know there are some lenses you can zoom in or out some and maintain focus ... someone else will have to asnwer wether or not that is the case for 35mm still camera lenses, since I wasn't snap zooming the time I used one.

you can zoom in on the GG with the HVX zoom a little, buti dont reccomend it. Just shoot with a Zoom lens, and add more light ot your scene. its the easiest. but beware, not all Zoom lenses are tele focusable. You may have to rack focus while zooming because they arent designed for cinema purposes.

wow, thanks everybody for the interesting discussion.

i just had that funny idea using the fuji lense because it was lying there, dying... ^^

but thats fudging crappy! spending a huge amount of money for a lense that provides less light loss is a hassle. but i defentely need that snapzoom feature to achive my desired look. damn.

any idea?

best greetings and cheers,
Garry
