Midi to pc help

hi

I have a Casio CTK 900 keyboard connecting to PC with Midi Mate USB (don't have joystick port on pc)and have soundforge 7.0 software. The problem is that the music I play isn't going through to record in the software. I am really new to this, but have checked the obvious like the in/out connections are in right socket etc. Am I using the wrong software? or I am not connecting or setting up the software correctly to recieve the midi data? Anyone with experience of this who can offer advice please.

Sound Forge itself won't record MIDI.

What kind of sound card do you have? That's what will be playing the MIDI, and you have to set the input source of Sound Forge to the output of the card.

Either actually running wires out and back in, or doing it in software with a source of "MIDI Synth", "What You Hear", or whatever your particular setup provides.

Me, I don't worry about it. I've got a SoundBlaster, and use Audacity to record the MIDI out of the card, then bring the resultant .wav files into Sound Forge for post-processing.

If you really want to delve into it, take a look over here: http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm Probably find everything you need. :)
