Microsoft WORD

I use Microsoft WORD for word processing. I have just typed up a contract that I need to send to the client but I noticed with other things I mailed out before that the receiving person can actually edit or modify whatever the document is on their end. I DON'T want this to happen. Someone told me I should use an ADOBE product but they didn't know which one. They basically said that when I sent my document through that program the receiving person could only read it and not be able to make modifications.

Anyone know what I am talking about?

I am using Microsoft office on my Mac.

Send it as a PDF file. That will be read by Acrobat Reader, but they shouldn't be able to modify it.

Lock the pdf as well.
