Microsoft Support

sucks amazingly bad. I've been on hold a total of one hour. I've been transferred 4 times. And our company has the highest support contract you can get with them. My apoligies, just venting. But seriously what is wrong with these companies? Dell does the same damn thing. STOP OUTSOURCING. give me someone who can understand me. because of ms's and dell's customer support i refuse to buy from them. I''m sure im not the only one.

I feel for you.

Unfortunately people simply won't pay for good support. Companies that provide it, have to pay for it, and in the end the consumers don't want to spend that money.

I remember, back in the day, when WordPerfect had free unlimited customer support. It was phenomenal, but Microsoft just came along and crushed them.

i wouldnt mind if dell jacked the prices up a bit. Seriously, now its so bad that you have to request media. they dont even send the OS cd anymore. Apple's support is freaken amazing, i'd take them any day over this. STILL on the phone by the way lol.

Agreed , and definately worth the 'extra' cost of the hardware (not trying to start Apple vs Windows debate, so don't go there!)

I find myself willing to pay more for goods and services just so I can get some decent support/customer service/respect...too bad I still have to deal with Comcast and all the telecomm's on their playing fields though.

Just found out that TimeWarner here in Eastern Carolina charges a $15/mo "home network" fee, which means if you don't pay it, you can only use Road Runner on ONE computer.

TimeWarner of the Carolinas (Charlotte) does NOT do this.

Isn't that only if they set up your network versus you setting it up yourself?

Nope. In Charlotte, all I had to do was plug in the router. Here, I can't even connect the "main" computer to the router; the signal stops AT the router. Nor does any other computer work connected directly to the cable modem.

Barry Green first pointed out this issue to me, and I confirmed it here.

to fool the cable company you have to have the router replicate the mac adress of the computer that is plugged into time warner. To them the router will look like the computer and so will everthing behind the router.

You don't like outsourcing? I find it amusing. Chatted on the phone for a while with a guy trying to tell me all the extra things I can have with my Gold Visa card.

Of course, I had called to activate my American Express, but that's not the point.

Oh, yeah, and computer support sucks. We have a contract with HP...who refuse to come out and fix the damned things. Flat out refuse. Your tax dollars at work. :)

Yeah, an IT friend walked me through the whole thing. It's still annoying to have to do all that.
