Although I do agree that Microsoft is bordering on evil (but everyone forgets what they have done for the planet) Who even uses Realmedia anyway? Don;t they put like little spy thingys in your computer?

What a bunch of fags

LOL. John, you crack me up. :-)

Geez, you young kids. Realmedia invented streaming. They were the one and only, until Microsoft set their sights on them, no doubt violating patents along the way.

I saw that Realmedia's revenues exceeded $250 million last year, and wondered...how and why?

I never liked Real either...it seems like borderline spyware. At the very least, they seem to engage in intrusive spyware-type practices.

It's important to consider it might be the result of Microsoft bundeling their player into the OS. An issue the lawsuit addresses.

They were profiling user's listening habits. What music, etc.. Not as bad as some of the SpyWare out there. They made the mistake initially of doing so without informing users. Notice that today most of these apps do user profiling but give an opt out option. Although some bury it deep within settings. Oh, what about Amazon, Netflix, and all these other sites on the net? You don't think they profile? Of course they do! To "provide better service" and to "tailor the experience".

Real got the shaft for doing something innovative and could help the user. Have you ever had a recommendation from Amazon or Netflix that you did select or at least look at? Sure, in the end it's about getting the user to purchase something. But a software company has to make money some how.

I personally think Real deserves the money that won in the lawsuit with Microsoft.

Yes yes; of course I read the article and am aware of the lawsuit issues (I posted the damn thing Hansk)....

I still think it's a chickenshit lawsuit (only in America). Real Media sucks; and I can't accept harmless 'profiling'. Bad things happen when Real Media is in the system; spams, pop-ups, intrusion attempts........

Real Player = Baaaddddddddddd. Must . stay . away .

Everyone knows they suck yet they still get a lawsuit claiming "No one is using us" (In whiny voice). Yeah because you suck.

I cannot for the life of me think they deserve the money. Thats half of whats wrong with this county is all of the bs lawsuits. So what if MS bundled the player with their OS. I use Quicktime over WMV everytime anyway.

Heh heh yes I know John... comments aren't always addressed to the source but others reading as well. Wow, you are fired up today. Someone slip you decaf by accident? :cheesy:

Agreed. But the point I was trying to make is that it's done all the time now. If you are using iTunes or Amazon or even Google you are being profiled.

If companies get stepped on by Microsoft then they should fight back. Otherwise MS would monopolize all that they could. I support a free market for software and the chance for competition. MS does not want that. By owning the OS it makes it easier. My support for the lawsuit wasn't for Real or their product itself, but for keeping a check on MS. And btw I am a wintel user and believe much of what comes out of MS is quality product. But not all.

I can see the attention MS get's regarding Anti-trust and fears of Monopoly but I think these lawsuits are BS. Should we step in and prevent the Monopoly and Anti-trust dealings? Of course.

But why sue them for gazillions of dollars for success they achieved in thier infancy? It's not like anyone else was offfering us any real options. Like I said "Thanks god for MS. Now let's tone them down and prevent any ethical issues from happening."

(I am a little angsty today; huh? Don't know why. :) Thanks for calling me out.)
