Microsoft DV Codec

Just started to copy some of my old VHS films to DVD so I can play it in my car for those long trips. I noticed sync problems after about an hour of recording and dropped frames when capturing on Vegas 6. I am using a datavideo DAC100 that I bought at EVS and it is flawless when using it as a ADDA converter when editing. I like to know has anyone find it better to use the Microsoft DV codec vs 3rd party when dubbing video longer than an hour? Output when capturing to the hard drive is Windows Media.

Your DAC100 is performing the analog to DV conversion. The audio is already in the DV signal coming through Firewire by the time it gets to your computer. I'm not sure how using the Microsoft DV codec will improve the situation you describe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

I had the same trouble with a Pinacle Studio analog breakout box during long captures (hour plus). So I switched to a Canopus ADVC100, which can be set to lock audio to video. It stays in synch even when capturing multiple clips with "snow" inbetween. It does best if you start the capture on a good frame.
