any suggestions as to where i would start my search? any mics to completely avoid at all costs?

thanks

Re: Microphone roundup?

yes, i have about 2,000 to spend on mics total. so it's not an endless amount, but it's not nothing.

Re: Microphone roundup?

What is the best shotgun mic and boom pole for under $500? Because, that is all I have to spend (I am a poor student).

Hi PT, you can get into a G557 and an AT897 or ME66/K6 easily. With the AT897, though, you can also afford a cable, and it comes with a free windscreen to get you going until you can afford a Rycote softie. Or you can get a G557C (CF) with an AT835B. That also comes with a windscreen. Here are some links:

And don't forget the DVXuser discount off those prices ! ;D

Re: Microphone roundup?

The Sennheiser 416 is a great mic BTW.

Re: Microphone roundup?

Rush will you ever ship to NZ? HAh your prices are so much cheaper than anywhere here.

Sorry to threadjack ;D

Re: Microphone roundup?

I bought a Senn. ME66, ME64 and one K6 power module from RUSH and LOVE 'EM. Great mics for the price.

Re: Microphone roundup?

the LAFCPUG has a low-cost shotgun roundup that's made the, uh, rounds for a while now. google it if you're interested, it's a bit old so it doesn't have the AT897 in there.

I myself have an AT897 on the way as of today, B&H is selling them for $280 which includes a Beyerdynamic shock mount and 18" right-angle XLR cable. Pretty good deal. I'm worried about the SN being worse than the ME66 (77dB as compared to 84dB). I've used a ME66 for years now so as soon as I get it in I'll do a quick comparison.

Re: Microphone roundup?

Hey Rush, how do I get the DVXuser discount from EVS? I might just go ahead and buy all of my needed supplies for my next film with EVS (The DVX100a, Gitzo Boom Pole, AT897 Mic, Rycote softie, and some cables for audio and maybe even some lighting). Let me know how to get the discount!
