hello,

I recorded a short film with an audio technica very cheap, atr55, it was condencer but it was not xlr. I don't remember now the name, I bought it, it was less than 150$ for the microphone with the boom:

I had and I am having a lot of problems with the sound of this short film. So I think I should change...

I have been reading in this forum, your information is quite useful. For those who are reading it to get information, not to answer, this is a useful topic:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/archive/index.php/t-119963.html

My aim is to buy a microphone flexible, mainly for recording voices, which I can use in a lot of different situations, because I can only spend a lot of money in one microphone, a not a lot, I don't have too much.

Taking into account all I have read, everything point to the Oktava MK-12. The reason why Oktava MK-12 seems to be useful is the possibility to exchange the capsules.

Do you agree in that point? It is not that expensive, these are the options:

270$ with one capsule, cardiod.

372$ with three capsules: Cardioid, Hypercardioid, Omnidirectional.

580$ with four capusles: Cardioid, Hypercardioid, Omnidirectional and large diaphragm MK-102 cardioid capsule.

The last one is quite expensive and it only add the large diaphragm MK-102 cardioid capsule. The first one only have one capsule so it doesn't seem to be really flexible. The second one have three capsules which seems to be really useful.

No one of this include a shockmount for the microphone. The atr55 was not really good about the sound but I think the pole was ok.

Is the connection between poles and mic universal? Is it that important the pole? is it important the shockmount?

I think the shockmount is important, because the movement of the pole can cause noise, but the pole is not that important with the correct shockmount.

What would you do?

Thank you very much !!

Recording dialog for film, you'll probably find that you just stick with the hyper capsule anyways, so paying more to get the other capsules might not be worth it.

Shock mounting is NOT optional. In most cases, neither is wind protection.

Unfortunately, the pole you bought isn't a proper boom. It's a stage stand with the base taken off. A good boom does make a big difference. Less weight for the boom op to swing overhead all day, better collars, longer reach, etc.

If you haven't already, spend some time reading the stickies at the top of this board and just browse a bit, these sort of questions come up practically every day here and there are tons of great answers to be found.
