Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a shotgun microphone in the 100-250 dollar range to be used with my new Canon XL-2. I don't really know anything about microphones, or audio in general-other than knowing the concept of a lav and shotgun mic, I'm a complete newb to this. Anyone have any opinions on what to buy or links to microphone/audio information that would be useful to a beginner like me? I'm pulling up Azden SGM 1x and 2x a lot when I look for info with google. Any opinions on that one? Thanks.

What do you need a microphone for? They're not one-size-fits-all, you know.

Shotguns are for outdoors. Hypercardioid's are for indoors. Learn it right the first time. :thumbup:
The top of the line microphone for interior dialogue is the $1500 Schoeps CMC5/MK41
The more affordable knock-off of the Schoeps mic is the $400 AKG C300B/CK93
