I just wanted to say thanks for the Avid users group meeting last night. I thought your information was very well laid out and the power point presentation was easy to understand. Too bad we couldnt get to see the "November" footage. When you jumped in to Avid and started talking about the meta data thats stored in the DV stream I sort of got lost but only because I was thinking about the video I have to re-edit in Avid for the very same reasons that you were talking about. Before this project I really never needed to think about this information but now its come back to bite me in the butt. One thing Im not to clear on is when recording from the DVX, the time code starts at zero with a new tape and I record. Everytime i stop recording Im guessing something is put in the meta data that tells the NLE that I have stopped because when I capture lets say in Vegas, if I leave capture going it will capture separate clips according to when I stopped even though I just leave it capturing everything. Is this to say I have broken timecode? Not being sure and needing to have correct time code for transferring the project to an Avid system elsewhere, I had the tapes dubbed at a place that put continuous timecode in. Was this a waste of money?
I was sort of confused with the (im going to get the name wrong) ______wav recording device and what I walked away with was that both video and audio are recorded with the same starting time code even though they are recorded on different devices and Avid will resynch by matching time codes. So how would I set that up in the beginning? Would I have to set both devices to oo
o
o
o and some how make sure they start simultaneously or is there a synch thingy I have to get to have them linked? How do you start a second tape, do you just manually put in what the last tape left off with or is starting from zeros again and just naming the clips different good?
Hope you get a chance to answer some of these questions. I wanted to ask you yesterday and also talk to you afterwards but I had to run to my daughters science fair before you went to Q&A.
Thanks again for the presentation and cant wait for the next one.
PS. I posted here and not the Avid section so more people that havnt thought about the meta data and timecode issues will see because not everyone looks at that section.
