Michael Jackson...1 year later.

I remember going to a movie theatre to see the movie Ben. It was a good movie at least in that time. And ofcourse the soundtrack title song became an instant hit by the Jackson Five. The rest is history now.

And if I'm not mistaken, I think the song Ben was also on cereal boxes at the time. One of the popular tear off 45 deals we always had back then. It's been awhile though. Pretty sure because I know I had the song...?

Damn. Time flies. Feels like yesterday. MJ and Quincy Jones were maybe one of the greatest funk duos ever.

Rest In Peace MJ.

I still think he was the most talented child ever.

PYT is playing.

Believe it or not, The Prodigy (not too fond of them) sampled thriller in an album called girls. Not a bad job. Totally different, but its not hidden or anything. They picked a damn good two bars or so to bite.

Michael Jackson. The first 'music star' you hear about as an infant.

RIP MJ.

Not necessarily true. Not to get off topic, but for historical fact and mutual interest, a little discussion and observation if you'll allow me for a moment? :)

The Osmand 5 were also in the works around the same time. Maybe a manufactured version in response to MJ's succes, whatever, the end result was Donny and Marie Osmand could sing and perform. Not up to Micheals abilities but they were decent enough and still are. Ya know.

The most over looked talent, imo to date, has been Billy Preston. Many of you may recognize him from hearing him play the keyboards on the early Beatles albums.

I guess at that time, for whatever reason, you never really saw him. He did appear in some of the Beatles videos that can be seen online on youtube. It could be argued that the Fab Four was just that, 4, and that the public didn't have a direct interest in the 5th beatle. (The real 5th Beatle I mean. Not the other drummer.)

The other argument ofcourse is the racial end of it. It is a fact of American history so I don't want to ignore that possiblity. Those were the times so that has to be considered also.

But let me share a young talented Billy Preston courtesy of youtube. Now, if this isn't a young talent, then, ya know...Well, the Beatles took him on. How good is that? haha.
Sorry for the temporary hijack. Thanks. :)

Well I guess I didn't get any flak over that in my inbox and didn't get banned/warned so I guess I'm okay.
Apparently other people have more important issues than I do I see, according to the headlines on my default home internet page...

I think I'll sleep okay tonight. -Cheers. Had a blast. Good night, carry on, haha.

Wow. :) over here it's all we knew man. MJ was pop music to our parents, not musicians or anything, but when I'm six, that's the first name I heard.

The really weird part? I had no idea who billy preston was until three hours ago when I downloaded a track called 'slaughter' which i found to be awesome.

Then you mention him. I love these moments. Why would you get flak?

Cheers Gord, have a good night mate

I have not been able to sleep for days.

Good morning.
I have those weird sleep cycles also. 2 or 3 days up and sleep for 12 hours, up for 4, sleep another 8. I could never keep a regular sleep schedule. So I know what you mean a bit.

I guess when I was a very young kid Elvis was the big thing then. Although we also had the likes of Fat's Domino and The Ink Spots records which I used to love playing. Also a lot of Scottish music. Then came the Beatles and later the Hard and alternative Rock around the late 60's into the early 70's a bit.
MJ was around that time also as I mentioned with the Jackson Five. It was a great time for modern music. The Jackson Five were everywhere. It's surprising that he was able to sustain that popularity for so many years.

Why am I worried about getting flak? Well, I kind of half joke about that but when I'm having a few beer and posting, I may not always have the best judgment and could say something that might sound offensive or could be taken the wrong way. Especially if I'm a little wound up about something. So that worries me sometimes. I just have to watch that I don't get too carried away on a subject, which isn't always the easiest thing to do when your half-bagged. You know, it could turn into one of those "It seemed funny at the time" kind of things, haha.
