Michael Clayton

hehehe ok...

I loved the performances in this flick, and it had some jump moments (I know, weird, it's not horror) I felt the stress on the lead character in the film... really made me feel for the guy... great ending as well.

I read the hype and went to see it. Gotta say that I was a bit dissapointed. It was good; not great. I'd wait for the DVD.

I have to agree with pcascio. I couldn't wait for this film and, well, it was a lot of backstory and then your hand kinda closes on air. You could see the ending coming from a mile away (the cell phone part). I'd give it a 5.5/10.

I saw it last night and definitely think its overrated at this point. It was intellectually sophisticated, but emotionally shallow. The movie definitely has alot to say, but it delivers it in a stale, defined-by-a-genre way. Not bad, but not too good either.

Tom Wilkinson provides soul and energizes the film with his incredible performance, but we are left to follow around Clooney who has an all too familiar character arc that is predictable. No big surprises here. The aesthetic was also too Hollwood-ized for me.

I may go see it this weekend, it's not a film I was really looking foreword to but after the trailer I'm willing to give it a shot.

I thought it was excellent.

Great style, pacing, performances...good writing, mood and look. I thought the ending was sufficient enough to not be telegraphed.

and beautiful looking. I wouldn't be surprised if Robert Elswit got 2 nominations between this and There Will Be Blood.

I loved this film

Just watched it

Clooney's best performance in any film. Really solid. Just engaged with his performance in this.

Awesome film; worthy of the accolades

We watched this last night. It is one of those pictures that reaffirms why I love movies. Tony Gilroy brings a simple visual and narrative style together - there's no fancy footwork here. Story, story story.

Sydney Pollack, George Clooney and Tom Wilkinson are just unbelievably good. We've got two more DVDs to get through, but I can see Clayton - a suspense-thriller - taking it just as easily as Blood or Atonement. It's a great story, told to perfection.

The Gilroys seem like a pretty serious film family. Tony wrote a bunch of movies (Bourne, Dolores Claiborne, Devil's Advocate). His father's a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright (The Subject Was Roses). His brother John is an editor (cut Michael Clayton, Billy Madison, Narc). His other brother Dan is married to Rene Russo and played Gordon Goose in Mother Goose Rock N' Rhyme! And his son played the copy-shop kid in Michael Clayton.

Saw it last night.

The Good-

Supporting cast performance. I was really, really impressed by the supporting cast. Specially "Arthur" and the lead actress. Spectacular performances that, to my surprise, actually outshined the leading man. I actually have a small problem with Clooney nowadays. He's so iconic, that its hard for me to see him in character. I'm always looking at George Clooney, with his familiar "grin", or "look", and not "Michael Clayton". His best performance so far, for me, was on "Good Night and Good Luck". Strong, supporting role. He has to do something completely different. To me, he's a "one trick pony" at this time. I do like his posture as a Hollywood star, though. I hope he proves me wrong.

Music ambience- Moody, low key music. Very "european"in its usage.

The Average

Plot- a Common thriller, with a story that we've all seen before, however, structured in a different way. Solid cinematography, with lots of use of D.O.F effects. However, the shooting style probably didn't convene the realism of the story much. It was so "formal", that took out some of the actual depth of the dialogue and the characters the movie had. I can't stop thinking about "Fargo", and how this was done right in that movie.

Bad

Nothing particularly bad, per se. (SMALL SPOILER)

It has a predictable story by the moment the three horses mistery is "developed", but that's about it. Its, in my view, Erin Brokovitch meets Fargo- and its halfway there.

The first Oscar nominee movie I've seen this year, and am disappointed. (We didn't have theatrical distribution of No Country for old Men, There will be Blood and Attonement. :( )

Just like the Baldwins! Except... not bloated, lame and sucky. Other than that, just like the Baldwins!

i thought it was a great film.

i think it is interesting to note that Jennifer Ehle was actually in the film as Michael Clayton's girlfriend and every single scene of hers was edited out.

That has to be every actors worst fear. Especially in an oscar nominated film.
