Mic Shootout: Audio-Technica AT4053b Vs. Rode NT3

If the mic sounds good then it's good. I'd never say to get rid of the NTG-3! If you are a video person you WILL need a shotgun, and the NTG-3 is the best value out there. The NTG-3 is better than most shotguns indoors. You need both a shotgun and a hyper, so keep the 700.00 mic and save for the 500.00 mic. It's as simple as that. You'll most likely be in a pretty controlled space, and I'm sure it will sound fine. You heard my shootout? I wouldn't throw away the NTG-3 or the 4053b for an Audix. Look at the specks on the Audix.

The NTG-3 is probably better indoors than the AT4053b is outdoors.

I use both, and in their price range are excellent. 4053b is a big improvement over the Oktava for example. The NTG-3 is a big improvement over the inexpensive shotguns like the AT-897.

thanks Grant i'm prob gonna go for the 4053b its on sale at B&H 2 Does anybody has any links to Movies or shorts done with 4053b ?

I have a NTG-3 and love it. My Sennheiser 100 EWs always sound better if i can get a LAV on the subject, but with a good boom-operator, you can get great sound with less ambiance that I have heard from any other shotgun I've used. The Rode Blimp is FANTASTIC as well.

I listen to the second video test with some headphones on. I still hear a slight echo in both mics. But on the first video I hear no echo maybe that's because of the sound panels on the wall. In the 2nd video ,both mics sound like my Sanken CS1 inside a room. Listening to mic test on the web or any other medium will always tell the truth.
