mic newbie, and filter for blue sky?

Don't know if this is possible, but is there a filter i can use that would allow me to capture that blue sky instead of it just blowing out?

also I'm in the market for a good shotgun mic. Any ideas of cheap mics and accessories you'd recommend?

THANKS!

any polarizers you'd recommend? what exactly does a polarizer do?

I looked at the other thread, but I'll probably never need to use the on the camera, I'll use a boom.

A polarizer will take the glare out of things. The sky will look more blue instead of being all blown out. Its also a good way to film water. Fisherman use polarized sunglasses so they can see through the water.

Maybe look at some Tiffen Polarizers.

No it's not a filter you'd want to leave on all the time, but all you need to do if you wonder if it would work for a shot is hold it up to your eye and decide if it helps.
