Mic Help

MattC, that was a great post. I saved it

lilfilmstress, if you need a wired lav that gets great results, try either the ECM44B or the AT899, that will get you a lav for 1/2 the price of a wireless, at least to get you started, and they usually sound much better, but at the cost of freedom of movement.

First I would follow mattC's advice, that was great stuff. Here is a link to Rycote, an excellent manufacturer of shockmounts and blimps: http://www.rycote.com/

Typical hybrid shockmount: http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=034803

Shockmount for using a full blimp: http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=040101

Once you select your mics, you can goto their site and it will automatically configure the best accessories for it.

For boompoles, nothing beats K-tek Avalons: http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KE100
It folds down to 2.2', so it is easy to transport in luggage.

I hope you enjoy your stay with all of us at DVXuser, and please forgive one of our members' meltdowns. It was very unusual for him... :(

Rush,

Thanks for the kind words. You know what would be interesting? In the thread I referenced we talked about a few different package options. If I were at EVS, I think I would put together four or five different packages at different price points. I would put together a package price and write out an explanation of why I put that package together the way I did, what it's intended for and how it might be modified or upgraded. So many folks here ask the same basic question, it would be great to point them to a quality vendor offering our members a quality package with discount pricing.

But that's just what I'd do....

Matt, you hit the nail squarely!

The new EVS catalog will have 7-10 such packages, all laid out in great detail, explaining each piece, and costing less than buying separate components. They will be named something like "On-cam package" and "Boom package" and "Complete blimp package"... etc.

This is primarily due to our owner's diligence in pursuing better deals with vendors, and buying in increasingly larger quantities. All the packages will be interchangeable (you can swap contents, no problem, as long as you call in the order) and will also appear soon on our site. We are working on the last Audio Technica packages tomorrow. All packages will also carry a DVXuser discount, naturally

filmstress-

I do a bit of overseas camera work myself and I'll tell you the best tool you can bring with you -- and use regularly -- is a tripod. Any tripod. And, use it all the time, on every shot possible. And, leave it still during recording. This will increase the quality of your video more than any single element. Also, for your driving footage, prop the camera on the dashboard for support. It will work well in making less obvious many of the bumps in the road.

There are some neat volcanoes south of Managua, as I recall.
