Ok, so i'm on a low budget at the moment and I need a good mic for a low price, I'm thinking 300-500 price range, I'm probably going to be using it on a boom pole.

Both pretty much, I do alot of film/tv stuff. So i'm both indoors and outdoors usually :undecided

what about the Rode NTG-1? Is that a decent choice?

The NTG-1 is a fine outdoor mic for its price. For indoors it works, but isnt my first choice. If you can afford it you'd be much better served by having two mics. A hyper like the akg ck93 or the oktava would suit you well. Dont forget some good wind protection for outdoors. A full zeppelin from k-tek would be ideal, but one of the slip on furries like the offerings from micover would work too, just not as well. Watch for used gear on the marketplace and ebay as well, just shop smartly and only go for it when you know you are getting a good deal.
