Mic for rural music and stories in Peru

I will be in Peru for 7 weeks in July and August shooting several short pieces and perhaps gathering material for a future full-length documentary. I will be filming primarily musicians in rural areas, though some urban, and people telling stories. Background noise will be an important part of the film. I have a Panasonic DVX100 (and it’s built-in mic), a Zoom audio device, and no other sound equipment. I will be filming indoors and outdoors and doing a lot of rough traveling.

With these considerations, I would like some advice about what kind of mic to buy. First, the ideal setup, secondly, according to a budget of $500.

Again, points of consideration are:

Panasonic DVX100
Zoom recorder
Spider-brace
No crew (sometimes one assistant)
Rough traveling (the less equipment the better)
$500 budget
Indoor and outdoor
Want to hear background sound
Music and voices most important

I would be very grateful to know what you all think.

Thank you so much.
