MFX files! UGH!

Ok, I'm officially going nuts trying to figure this out.

What the hell do I use to play back MFX files on a mac? Aren't there any free players out there? I'm surprised that VLC doesn't play them back.

I also still can't figure out how to get these MFX files into FCP after transferring them onto the mac.

Anyone care to help the the lost grasshopper out?

Jay there are really two ways to skin this cat.

Method 1

Copy ALL data from your p2 cards onto a HDD. Best not your OS drive. Dont put them all in one folder, put them in seperate folders and use a naming system that allows YOU to know what is where. Remove your p2 devices (camera, firestore etc) from your mac.
Open FCP, and go FILE>Log and transfer. On the new window theres a little + top right corner. Click this and point to the folder and choose open. ALl your clips in that folder will appear as a list. Choose a clip and add in and out points and name as required. Then at bottom right of the list is a button, add selection to que, click it. That clip will be transferred into FCP and ready to edit.

2/ Use third party software such as Raylight, HD Log, MXF4QT or p2 genie.

Hope it helps.

Brandon, yes indeedy homie.

Noel, my man! Just walked through it, and it works! Thanks a million my man! I can't believe how much of a hard time I was having with it, LOL....
Hey you sold your A1 a while back didn't you? What did you buy after that?

Another question here for you guys....

Do you see any issues in me sliding the P2 card into my windows XP laptop and doing a copy and paste onto an external USB hard drive?

No issues, but you may find using the P2 Viewer program a little easier for copying files (unless you're copying an entire card, in which case dragging/dropping the CONTENTS folder should work).

Jay - a bit off topic, but seeing a few of your questions lately on the HVX I can't possibly recommend the HVX Bootcamp DVDs enough - you should really get both volumes of it if you can.
They do a great job of walking you through the camera and the post process.

I have the HVX, the manual, and Barry's book - and I still go back to the bootcamp DVDs every now and again.
When I got my HVX last year I received it literally two days before having to shoot my first job with it.
Honestly I don't know how well it would have gone had I not watched the full 3 hours or so of that first volume of the HVX bootcamp.

Jay, only recently sold the A1. But bought a HPX500 mid last year.
