Mexican shy Inventor / Totally different camera-jib

- do a patent search. Your idea may not be unique.
- write down your idea. sign it, notarize it.
- if you have the money, submit a patent application.

But understand that patents do not protect an invention. The only thing that protects an invention is money. If you have a good idea, anyone can steal it. A patent is only useful if you are willing to spend more money in the courts than the person that has taken your idea. I doubt there is enough money in the jib business to defend a patent, unless you are already an established company with the lawyers and cash already in place to deal with an infringement.

A fair characterization, BUT with a small exception. A patent is a right to sue in patent court. No patent or provisional patent, NO RIGHT TO SUE. Patents cost at minimum $5K to get through US PTO.
You do not need a notary only a witness that understands the nature of the invention. A provisional patent application is still only $110 but it only buys 12 months of registration/protection, essentially irrevocable proof of the DATE of invention.

Searching patents is NOT as easy as people think and professional searchers charge around $50/hr for the service.

The key is NOT TO DIVULGE THE INVENTION until you have at least filed a provisional application. No matter how tempting it is to 'share'.

aalleexx is right. Exact same thought process that I went through. You cannot win when someone in china copies the design. And it will happen. You will spend $20k on a patent and then it wont do anything for you. My plan is to flood the market. Make your product ready to go. No questions asked ordering, Hit the market hard and fast, take the sales while you can before the knockoffs arrive. Innovate and improve along the way.

Yeah but my workaround is simple.
1) Design and journal with proctored witness signatures
2) Submit provisional patent applications ( contact me if you want me to be your agent. I do these filing for a biotech client all the time)
3) Build and prove prototype through samples and even photos or vids of the proto.
4) market the design directly to Chinese, Korean or Japanese manufacturers and sell them the invention.

#4 SOLVES the cloning problem because though it earns the inventor no residuals , it puts the entire burden of full patent application, marketing and sales on the very manufacturers that would steal it anyway.
I'm also starting to explore WIPO and Chinese patent authority filings and skipping USPTO altogether ; )
USPTO does a terrible job of due diligence and besides, it's only an arbitration court if someone files suite,

Our company is filing China patents now. They deem them to be worthwhile as China is taking steps to crack down. You may not get much protection in China for a product of this sort, but they are starting to pay attention.

Thanks sir Blit.
Your tips are great!
Tomorrow I will have a meeting with a representative of the Mexican federal government.
He is part of a program for supporting inventors for technological development, they will help me to fill registration forms, to draft the invention, drawing arts, patent search.
But I still hear your words again and again, I read them from time to time to stay on the course. Thanks again

Looks nice and props for still working on this after 4 years:)
Is this still a fun project or is this going into a commercial direction?
If so, I would strongly suggest using a better camera and staged shots for the presentation.
2013 I would have been all over this, but in the meantime drones and gimbals became (too) affordable and (too) popular so
I'd really emphasise what shots you can only (or most conveniently or reliably) get with your crane.
If this is "just" a proof of concept, awesome job, you got some serious skills, I already feel like an engineer when I rig a light to the ceiling :)

I signed a document with two american individuals, take my prototype away 4 years ago, nothing happened since then, lost comunication I can not do anything with my idea, now I am trying to find another way of doing the same thing better and simpler, yesterday I dreamed that way...

Don't go down that "what would have happened if" path, it only leads to depression. And again, technology has advanced a lot and you should ask yourself, if there still is a place for an all-manual crane like yours and if you have the means to become recognized in such a narrow market.
Have you seen this:

Yea I like this! Thanks, in fact, a week ago I send them a little proof, they are in South Corea, they are really nice people at 9.solutions

By the way, maybe, I did not explain well its features

Adjustable Automatic autoaiming mechanical crane in 2 axis
switchable pan or tilt
Double parallelogram keep vertical and/or horizontal,

ha ha this is more confusing, sorry, I need a partner to explain it!!!
