Mew DVRIGPRO For 35mm systems

Damn, looks like ED209.

I can't understand why they'd use 'HD', I hear HD I hear High Def.

Yeah, I saw that Heavy Duty for HD on their ad but I don't understand why they'd use it.

It's a nice looking item though.

We use DvRigPro HD to distinguish it from the Classic DvRigPro.

Feedback:

Let me tell you it is absolutely amazing how well balanced this rig is. It barely even feels heavy. Now I must preface this by saying we only had a matte box, a 50mm nikon prime, the Cinevate Brevis 35mm adapter, a 72mm HD achromat, and the Red Rock follow focus unit on there. Also, we tossed our Firestore hard drive on the camera later and that didn't make much of a difference in weight either. We plan on propping our 7" HD monitor on there for tomorrows shoot, but I don't think that'll make it too much heavier. I'll let you know if it does though. We're planning on putting it on the front mount, imbetween the two handles, so perhaps that will affect something, but I don't think it should. As far as any discomfort is concerned, i've had swedish massages that were more discomforting than using this rig. It's a beauty. We did a full 14 minute long take and our camera operator said he could've gone another 20 minutes before needing a break. Thus far no one has experienced any back pain or anything like that, but i'll keep you up to date if in fact that happens (I know some steadicam ops say it takes some time to get your body used to it). In my humble opinion, this rig pretty much bridges the gap between an industry standard steadicam rig and a world class shoulder mount.

For comparative purposes; both me and our camera operator have used various shoulder mounts and none of them come close to the support offered by the rig. Furthermore (and this is the scary part), our production recently brought on a 2nd Line Producer (pictured above), and with him came a handful of extra equipment, including a xxxxxxxxx stablizer rig. At around 10K a piece, the xxxx should've over-performed the DV Rig Pro HD, however, both myself, my camera operator, and the Brock (who owns the xxxxxx ) all felt that the DV Rig Pro HD did a much better job of distributing weight and fitting the needs of our camera rig. As far as 35mm adapter camera setups are concerned, you should have the market cornered with this thing, because it literally complements every facet of balancing a front-heavy camera setup. The one thing the xxxxx did a little bit better was provide smoother shots, however it was not that noticeable of a difference, and it's at the cost of comfort and compatibility. That said, I think the stabilizer we have now gets the job done pretty well. More concerning than the stabilizer however is the little rubber piece that the stabilizer sticks into. There are times when it looks like it's about to pop off or break, however that hasn't happened yet, and I noticed on the site you've already implemented a quick release pod to most likely remedy this .

We love this rig, and can't thank you enough for the opportunity to use it on our film. Good luck at NAB, and feel free to quote anything i've mentioned (Todd Sklar, Writer/Director of Box Elder). Once we get this thing in the can in June, I'll be making sure to post frequently on the various blogs and message boards about how wonderful of an experience we had with the DV Rig Pro HD. In fact, if you want to notify me of an appropriate date, i'll make sure to post something over at HVXuser and Cinevate.com about our successful use of the rig in beta tests, and we can coordinate those posts with the official release of the rig, almost like a marketing campaign.

Thanks again for everything,

Todd Sklar, Writer/Director of Box Elder

Puh I finally resisted ordering it or wanting it so badly... but since I don't have any money to lose at the moment ( I am not really eating just to get a used HVX next month and such), I will have to build one myself... but it looks DELICIOUS!

...maybe later this year.

Thanks for the review!

I allready use the dvrigpro with the heavy stuff. The only thing I need is heavier springs. Is there a pole available with heavier springs because only HVX with mattebox is allready "heavy".
