"Meth" Trailer Exposed

The "Exposed" headline is just to get people clicking, nothing exposed here.

This post shows how the use of Depth of Field with out a 35mm lense can give your project a very cool look just like the Meth Trailer.

The Meth trailer here:

The thing about art is it's easy to imitate.

I hope this was helpful to you and keep an eye on our movie "Townies" if you like gangster dramas.

I don't understand what you're showing here? All the foreground blurry objects?

Are you suggesting they're composited in? Explain yourself better, mister. this trailer is awesome, and I think it speaks directly to the 35mm zealots. You don't need a $1000 accessory to get good images. I will NEVER buy a 35mm adaptor.

I didn't need one on the XL-2, and I won't need on on the DVX either.

I think the point he was getting at was that there are a lot of visual tropes to show how deep or shallow the depth of field is, which in itself, does nothing to advance a story.

What is the point of this post? You look really silly man. You havent exposed anything, many of us said all along this was easily doable with a DVX, that is the easy part, the producing, locations, foley, editing, directing, etc. are the hard part.

Citizen Kane? WHAT THE?????? Maybe there is nothing groundbreaking and maybe there is nothing others couldnt do... BUT THEY HAVENT. This is better than 99.9% of things posted on DVXuser. Give the kid his props, dont pretend that drawing red lines in paintshop has exposed anything... wow...

Listen, I'm not going to sit here and F#cking explain myself to you.

I made this post thinking it might help some people on DVXUSER with the use Depth of Field sparingly in their projects like the trailer you all love so much.

Take it for what it's worth. If you don't like the post click the back button.

i'm not insulting you, i just don't see what you're trying to show us. what shallow depth of field looks like?

Dude, chill out. We were just wondering what you were trying to show us.

Your edit of your first post makes the clearer. We didn't know what the heck you were trying to emote, here. No need to get all defensive.

Glad you edited your original post to be less obtuse and accusatory. Also, might want to stop posting like this and sending me PMs telling me to "grow up" Your original post warranted the response it got.

I made this post to help people out of pure kindness and then Ash comes in here and tells me I look really silly? Is that really a neccessary thing to say? My comment was to him. No offense to the rest of you. Hope the post is of some use to someone. Have a good one.

LOL... this again... I think I understand the original posters intention, to show that by shooting "through" something, or with something in the foreground you can achieve a shallow DOF look without a 35mm adapter. Am I correct in this assumption?

Check out "The Bourne Supremecy" for a ton of great DOF shots. I'm interested in this subject because we're storyboarding for my movie that starts principal in June. This month I'm basically watching a ton of movies and getting ideas for shots. I remembered the METH trailer having cool DOF, thus the reason I disected the hell out of that (after I was done, I thought you guys might want to see just how much DOF he used in the trailer).

Here's a link to The Bourn Supremecy you can watch online
http://www.tv-links.co.uk/index.do/4

Can anyone recommend any movies that use a lot of DOF? I heard the movie "Bomb the system" uses a lot of DOF. I Plan to check that out too.

Shamrock, just a quick tip, it's not called "using DOF" it's called using SHALLOW DOF. Seems people equate a blurry BG or foreground to the term DOF (Depth of Field) when in fact you can have DOF without a blurry background, it's just a DEEP DOF :)

Shamrock, Im liking the Townies concept and website. As a lad from Irish decent myself, I dig this kind of thing. Good luck with your project. sláinte
