Any idea why it would change the ratio? I though shooting 4:3 w/ letter box would allow me to simply upload 4:3 video with black bars. I don't want to actually make it 16:9.

If you have the project properties set to widescreen, thats your problem...set it to just plain ol 24p NTSC DV.

I'm pretty sure JCVR is referring to the preview window at capture, and how the footage looks in it. That's independent of whatever Vegas project settings you happen to have; Sony Capture is a separate program.
