Merkury Lens

I have two Merkury lens:

A 72mm High Definition 0.45x Wide Angle Lens

A 72mm High Definition 2x Telephoto Lens

I've never really used them before, never really needed too, but I got them as part of a package and I want to experiment. I have a DVX-100B

When I attach the lens I notice two things, on the Wide Angle, unless I'm zoomed all the way in, the edges of the lens blur the corners of the image. With the Telephoto, unless I'm zoomed all the way in, I see the inner lens and the subject is like a photo at the end of a long tunnel.

Is this how it's supposed to work? Did I get gyped and get sent improper lens for the camera? I admit I'm ignorant in this area. Any education would be great.

Hey, I think I got the same package deal as you did, I bought a DVX100B package and it came with a tiny tripod, a table tripod, some other things and these 2 lenses (Digital Optics). I have the same problems too, and couldn't find a solution on the web. Anyone?

The lenses were free with the camera becasue they are absolute junk. There have been people asking this question before, usually people that bought the "package" on ebay or from some other strange camera company. The next thing to check would be to make sure that you have a legitimate US authorized camera and that it is not grey market.

Well, in all honesty I didn't really care about the lens. I wanted the camera, and the seller on eBay had the cheapest price I could find for the camera, which works like a dream. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't mis-using the lens somehow. The lens filters and the table tripod were the only two additions to the kit that get any use. Everything else was total crap. Which is fine. I still got the DVX for a $1000 less than anywhere else I looked.

Since these lens are crap, does anyone know a place where I could get good deals on proper lens?

a 1000 less than any where how much did you pay? does the cam work great? maybe i should look into this deal?

So, there's no adapter to make these lenses work?

How can you tell if the camera is grey-market? I wrote to Panasonic but haven't heard back yet.

The Merkury lenses are not crap, they're cheap but not crap. They're good for what you spend on them. IE less than $50. Plenty of us over at HV20.com are using them as mains and spares, or just to play around with as some of them are only $20. The issues you may be having have to do with the fact that the edges on most wides distort to a blur if AF is engaged or you get a vignetting effect when fully wide in manual or AF. Plus these cheap lenses usually have 2 parts, the wide angle and a "macro." They have to both be attatched to work properly. More expensive wides will have these same elements, but just in one unit. So maybe your macro isn't attatched.
As for the grey market I believe you can check your serial number online somewhere, I can't remember if it's on the Panny site or some outside site. Grey market isn't always nefarious. I remember B&H was selling one of the $20K+ Panny's and Panasonic Jan said that they weren't supposed to be since they weren't authorized to sell that camera and if you bought it from them there was no warranty. But who would've thought B&H would sell a "grey market" cam.

TimeKoder,

Do you mean that both lens adapters need to be on the camera at the same time? Will that work? I'll give it a shot...

Thanks.
