Hey gang,

tried following instructions from this site to activate the mercury engine playback on premiere pro cs5 but to no avail. When i click on project settings, general, the bottom section "mercury playback engine" is still greyed out.

Anyone have problems with this and found a solution?

It may help if you say what OS you're running and which card you have.

Those instructions have been around for well over a year and they work perfectly so either you have a card which does not meet the minimum recommendations or you're doing something wrong.

Also, depending on the card you have, you may need to re-do it after you patch up CS5.

ive got the same card in one of my pcs and its working fine so to go through a little checklist:
  • has your card got 1gig of ram or 512mb
  • have you downloaded the latest nvidia drivers from their website
  • did you type it into the text file properly withe GeForce capital F

my card is 512 i believe. Drivers i will double check, and yes to the capital F.

Ah, theres your problem. You need a card with at least 786mb or there a bouts of ram so you should of of got the 1gb card. good thing they are cheap these days.

ahh, well that's a simple and easy answer:) I appreciate you checking this out bimdas! Lastly, what would you recommend that's faily inexpensive but will still give me that extra little boost?

Hmm, choices are quite varied but if I were to buy a new card today, I'd get a gtx 460, around $200. If I were to get a cheap 2nd hand one then a gtx 285. From memory, there's not much performance difference between that and the newer more expensive cards.

I'm running the new Asus G74sx 3d,laptop. It has the GTX 560M, 2gigs of gpu ram. I also get the greyed out window. I tried using the auto sctipt that suppose to do the hack on it's own, but cant seem to get it to work either. Although this laptop is smokin fast with an I7 sandy bridge, So for now I guess I can live without cuda but still,I hope they get my card on the hack list soon though.

Same happened to my mates laptop. Updated the driver from the nvidia website and that fixed it.

And it's probably better to just update the text file yourself then rely on some script to do it for you. As you said, they probably haven't included all video cards out there, especially mobile ones to the their script list.
