"meow" on soundtrack

Sorry for the double post, but I realized the FCP forum might have been the wrong place for this:

I have a talking head -- man with a fairly low voice -- and, in one clip, you suddenly hear a couple of seconds of what sounds like a cat meowing in the background. I don't remember what happened there, but it's high pitched and irritating. About half the volume of the guy's voice. Any filter/technique recommended for this, using FCP or other software? (I absolutely can't reshoot.)

Super a cat in the shot and add a few more meows so it doesn't sound like a lone meow. :) Send us a link to a few seconds of the cat and let us see what we can come up with.

So the cat stepped on the guys lines? I hate to say it but you may be screwed. The problem is that your cat meows frequency range is going to overlap with your dialog and so you really can't effect one with out effecting the other. Try removing his voice from the meows':) Other wise do your best with room tone, I have pretty succesfully removed the better part of nasty sounds by slipping room tone in between words and even sylables in a sentance. Of course you could try and find a different sound bite to use and then cut to B role:)

He IS screwed. There is no filter for that. You are right. If you have a sound that varies across frequencies, then you really can't filter it out.
