Menu forces compression

I always make sure that all of my video is compliant (mpeg2, etc.), and it never has to re-compress in Architect. AND, when I FIRST check out the optimize feature after adding only a video background to the menu (mpeg2), it shows the menu video will also not be re-compressed (has a green check mark next to it).

However, once I add any other media to the DVD, the menu video shows it will then be compressed.

Am I making any sense here? Any ideas what's causing it?

So then it sounds like it may be best to go ahead and render the motion menu background to a AVI file (w/sound rendered seperately to a AC3). That way, it's only be compressed once, not twice by me doing it to a MPEG2, only to have DVDA recompress it again.

Thoughts? I'm sure the difference would be hardly noticable, but that's my anal retentive side coming through wanting as much perfection as possible in the finished product ... a trait I see in most everyone on this site anyway.
