Megatrax and Dewolfe

I am working on a short film to enter into Sundance. I don't have time to score it, so I am using needle drop music. I figure if I get into the festival, I can buy the music, if it doesn't get in, no big deal. The music comes mainly from Dewolfe and Megatrax. Any idea how much the music will cost me if it gets into a festival???

Dewolfe would be $350 per drop for Film Festival clearance.

I don't know about Megatrax

Also, you might try Killertracks as the would be about $250 per drop.

Opus1 and Five Alarms music would be good choices to if you are on a budget.

$350 is a lot. This is a short film (under 15 minutes). I will most likely use 12 cuts of music. I am using them mostly for transitions (not the full song). Each has been edited down to 30 seconds. Will that bring the price down a little?

Also, how do I put the music in the credits? Is there a specific format I need to follow?

Most short fims don't make money. It's just a calling card. This little calling card just got expensive. I've used stuff from cheaper libraries before (buy out instead of needle drop). The quality is not as good, but the price is much better. Any other tips?

You might also consider using Royalty Free music instead of needle drop music. Places like Digital Juice, and many others, sell RF music. With the RF your cost is a one time rights purchase, so for instance if all the cuts you want were in one collection say BackTrax from DJ (1100 tracks - multiple versions lengths of 300+ songs for $199) the price you pay for the disks is all you pay to use the cuts. With needle drop you pay for different uses, and EACH use. So your $250 for one drop is only for THAT project. Also if your film were picked up for distribution (very very unlikely for a short) you will have to pay a different price in most cases. I'm not sure about these specific libraries but on a feature I was working on a 15 sec "news room" theme was going to cost $1,500 to use.

So personally I would stay away from needle drop music.
